CPCS A56 Dump Truck

What is the course?

The CPCS A56 course is suitable for operatives looking for basic foundation training. At the same time, it illustrates how to maintain and operate this type of articulated-chassis truck. The main aim of the course is to impart candidates with sufficient knowledge to know how to operate this type of dumper in the right way and without harm.

Course content

  • Comprehending the basic standards required to operate the equipment
  • Capacity, function and restrictions of the machine
  • Fitting and working with additional equipment
  • Regular maintenance and basic amendments
  • Moving the machine around site safely and competently
  • Driving on the open road
  • Machinery operation, regulations and safety measures

How is the course taught and assessed?

This particular course is presented via a mix of classroom-based lessons and practical activities. At the end of the course, you will be assessed via a practical exam as well as a theory test.

Who should take this course?

This course is recommended for anyone who wishes to operate a rear tipping dumper, whether or not they have any prior experience. If you do have experience but no formal training or simply want a good refresher course, then this is perfect for you.

You can choose which qualification you wish to opt for:

  • A56A: Up to 15 tonnes
  • A56B: All sizes

What qualification will I receive?

Once you have fully completed the course, you will receive the following:

  • CITB National Construction College certificate
  • CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (once you have passed the CPCS Technical Tests)

Entry requirements

In order to apply for a place on this course, you must have already passed (during the 2 years prior) a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test. You also need a good understanding of written and spoken English.

What can I do next?

Once you have completed this course, you can look at taking a Level 2 NVQ/SVQ Assessment, working towards your CPCS Blue Competent Operator card.
