IOSH Managing Safely

What is the course?

This course is intended for managers and staff members who are typically tasked with the supervising of health and safety regulations in the workplace environment. Learners will gain detailed understanding of the various rules and regulations relating to health and safety and also how these tie into the legal requirements in this field.

The course aims to provide a highly detailed overview of health and safety and makes use of real-world examples and case studies. It also covers how health and safety are acknowledged across a broad base of understanding and looks at diverse industry applications. This course is made up of several key modules pertaining to the effective management of health and safety and takes approximately three to four days to complete.

  • Understanding and conducting risk assessments in detail
  • How to effectively control health and safety risks
  • The duties of all staff members regarding health and safety issues
  • How to recognise safety hazards in the workplace
  • How to conduct required investigations following an incident
  • Performing safety risk audits and reviewing the findings
  • Monitoring the performance of safety systems and procedures
  • How to ensure a safety while preserving the environment

How is the course taught and assessed?

The course is designed to be highly informative and practical. It includes actual risk assessments and case studies for the learner to participate in. In order to successfully complete the course, applicants have to sit for a written test which is made up of multiple choice questions.

What qualification will I receive?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the IOSH Managing Safely certification.

What can I do next?

The course serves as a perfect entry point into the study of health and safety and many other qualifications can be done after. For instance, you may decide to go on to either the National General Certificate or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. These are widely recognised qualifications which are accredited by NEBOSH.

Entry requirements

This course is ideally suited to health and safety practitioners who have to operate in a supervisory capacity in the workplace. There are no further prerequisites to the course except a decent level of basic English skills.
