What is the course?

This course is tailor-made for supervisors and managers who are required to oversee the safe usage of the various types of MEWPs. Attendees will gain extensive knowledge for managing team members while ensuring Mobile Elevating Work Platforms are always used in the safest and most correct manner.

Course content

  • A thorough understanding of IPAF PAL
  • Learning all the related health and safety regulations pertaining to MEWPs
  • Detailed overview of the various types of MEWPs
  • How to maintain MEWPs ad how to conduct required pre-usage safety inspections.
  • How to conduct on-site training and familiarisation techniques for employees.
  • Which types of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) are required for the different types of MEWPs
  • Procedures for hiring contractors to work on MEWPs

How is the course taught and assessed?

Training is given both in theoretical and practical terms. Learners have to attend classes and also participate in practical lessons where actual MEWPs will be used. Final assessments include a written examination as well as a thorough display of understanding of the practical side of MEWPs.

What qualification will I receive?

Existing holders of the IPAF PAL card, will have the designation "MM" printed to their cards indicating they have successfully completed the MEWPs for Managers. A certificate will be issued to applicants who do not as yet possess the IPAF Operator's License. In both cases, the qualification is valid for a period of five years before renewal becomes necessary.

What can I do next?

The IPAF Operator's license and PAL Card is unique in that you can add other related branches of knowledge to it once you have the basic qualification. So you can go on to study other categories and these will be appended to your existing license or card.

Entry requirements

You will be required to bring along your own PPE, namely safety shoes and a safety helmet. Although much of the training is practical in nature, you will still need to have a good spoken and written understanding of the English language.
