IPAF Static Boom Operator (1b)

What is the course?

This IPAF Static Boom Operator (1b) course is directed at operatives, supervisors and those who manage powered access equipment. This equipment includes the use of Aerial Work Platforms, Scissor Lifts, Self-propelled Boom Lifts and Trailer Mounted Boom Lifts.

Course content

This includes the following classifications:

  • MEWP categories
  • Structural parts
  • Hazards
  • Pre-use inspection and handovers
  • Safe operating methods
  • General regulations - ISO 18878, European, HASAWA, MHSW
  • Specific regulations - PUWER, LOLER, WAHR
  • Accident reporting and RIDDOR

How is the course taught and assessed?

This one-day course for IPAF Static Boom Operator (1b) commences with an overview and a pre-course theory assessment. In addition to theory and practical tuition, there are also final theory and practical assessment tests.

What qualification will I receive?

Upon successful completion of the IPAF Static Boom Operator (1b) course, operatives will receive an IPAF Smart Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card, and an IPAF Certificate. This PAL Card has a validity of 5 years.

If you have already qualified to hold a PAL Card, the Static Boom (1b) additional grade will be added with the expiration date remaining the same.
