The Red CSCS Card shows that you do not currently have a Construction NVQ but that you are working towards one.
The Labourer CSCS Card shows that you have either a L1 Award or have completed a H&S Awareness course.
The Blue Card is for skilled workers with a Construction NVQ Level 2 in their chosen trade.
A Gold CSCS Card holder has achieved NVQ Level 3 and is either a skilled worker or supervisor.
The Black CSCS Card is for managers and requires an NVQ Level 4 or 5.

The type of CSCS Test you take will depend on the trade you work in and the role that your perform in that trade.
The majority of UK construction trades will require you to take an Operative CSCS Test to qualify you for your CSCS Card.
Supervisors and Managers must take either the CSCS Supervisors Test or the MAP (Managerial and Professional) CSCS Test in order to get their Gold and Black CSCS Cards.
Affiliate CSCS Card trades (electrotechnical; PHMES; and the occupations covered by the other affiliate cards listed in this site) may either be required to take CSCS Card Tests which are specifically tailored to the nature of the hazards that their particular job exposes them to.
