CSCS Test
The CSCS Test, or CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test, is an industry standard qualification that measures your health and safety knowledge for the UK building trades. The CSCS Test takes the form of a multiple choice exam, which lasts for 45 minutes.

The candidate is able to revise prior to the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test exam using approved revision materials, which are available in printed form or as a DVD ROM.

There are different types of CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test for different roles within the UK building trade.

How the CSCS Test Works

The CSCS Test is taken as a multiple choice exam.

You have 45 minutes to complete the Operative exam at the start for a training session to get used to answering questions on the test.

The Operative CSCS Test may be taken in 10 languages: Bulgarian; English; German; Lithuanian; Polish; Portuguese; Punjabi; Romanian; Russian; and Welsh. If you need to take the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test in a language other than English you should specify when booking as your Test language cannot be changed on the day.

Why Do You Need a CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test?

You need to pass your CSCS Test in order to be eligible for a CSCS Card, which measures not just your health and safety awareness and knowledge; but also your overall trade competence and skill.

As nearly all UK building sites and contractors now require a CSCS Card before you can work for them, the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test is a vital work qualification.

Types of CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test

There are 11 types of CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test. Some of the CSCS Test types are operated by affiliate bodies of the CSCS. Where this is the case, the affiliate body has been noted:

• Operative CSCSTest

• Working at Heights CSCS Test

• Lift and Escalator CSCS Test

• Highways CSCS Test

• Electrician CSCS Test (run by the affiliate body ECS)

• Managerial and Professional (MAP) CSCS Test

• Supervisor CSCS Test

• Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration CSCS Test (run by the affiliate body ESS)

• Plumbing CSCS Test (run by the affiliate body PMES)

The type of CSCS Test you will need to take depends on the trade that you perform and the role you occupy within that trade.

How to Get a CSCS Test Pass

To pass your CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test, you are strongly advised to invest in some official revision material. Construction Support Line supplied CSCS Test revision material, which can be ordered online.

Make sure you book your CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test for a date and time that you know you will be able to make. If you are not confident that you know the location of the CSCS Test Centre you need to go to, take the time to find out. If necessary, make a dry run of your journey so you can be sure you know where to go and how long it will take you to get there.
