The CISRS scheme has been running for over thirty years and was affiliated to CSCS in 1999, the first trade card to do so.
It is divided into three categories that cover operatives, managers/supervisors and inspectors.
There's also a labourer CISRS card for those who support scaffolding operations on site and a trainee card that's available to anyone who has not yet gained the necessary qualifications.
Most applicants for the CISRS card have to pass the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test within two years of making their application.
Exemption is available to those who have already completed equivalent or better training, such as gaining the NEBOSH Construction Certificate or, for a trainee, having completed the Construction Skills Health and Safety Awareness course.
Application for CISRS cards above the labourer version are required to have a construction NVQ/SVQ at level 2 or 3.
All CISRS cards carry identification details that include the holder's name and photograph, their work category and the CSCS logo as proof of affiliation.
All cards have an expiry date because they generally need to be renewed every five years. At each renewal, CISRS card holders are required to retake the Health, Safety & Environment Test to ensure their knowledge is kept up-to-date.
