What is the SITS course?

This is a basic three-day course, suitable for operatives, supervisors and managers that have to inspect scaffolding for safety reasons.

What does the course cover?

It will look at:

  • Issues with reporting
  • Practical inspection of scaffolding
  • Scaffolding techniques
  • Scaffolding- terminology, components & equipment
  • The applicable regulations & codes and how to understand them

How is the course taught and assessed?

This basic course (SITS) will be taught with a mix of class-room based study, simulations on the computer and also team-focused practical learning. It will take three days. Assessment will be carried out on both your practical skills as well as your grades in the test. Together they will provide you with an overall grade/evaluation.

What qualification does the course provide??

Once you successfully complete and pass the full course, you will receive your CISRS Scaffolding Inspection Training Scheme (Basic) certificate (SITS). What can I do after this?

Once you have your SITS basic certificate, you can progress to the SITS Advanced Certificate. You may also wish to look at obtaining the CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspector Card if you took the course within the past five years.

Entry requirements

You will be able to take this course once you have passed your CITB HS&E tests. This must have been within the last two years, or you must have one of the following certifications:

  • CCNSG Passport to Safety
  • FAS Safe Pass
  • NEBOSH certificate (within the past 2 years)
  • Offshore Survival certificate
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (within the past 2 years)
  • You also need good knowledge of English, verbal and written.
