CPCS A23 Skid Steer Loader

What is the course?

The CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) A23 Skid Steer Loader course has been designed to provide operatives with full understanding of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to operate a skid steer loader. Training is provided using classroom and practical instruction to enable you to qualify for your construction industry recognised operator card.

Course Content

Our course provides the knowledge and practical training you need to ensure safe and effective operation of a skid steer loader and covers:

  • Understanding of the actions and responsibilities of a plant operator
  • Purpose of principle components, construction, controls and all terminology relating to a skid steer loader
  • All regulations and legislation relating to use of equipment
  • Effective pre-use checks, configuration and travel for on-site and off-site use
  • Understanding manoeuvres in small spaces
  • Travel over different surfaces: level surfaces, rough undulating ground and substantial inclines – laden and unladen
  • Safe configuration for extraction and loading
  • How to utilise equipment for different types of loads
  • Understanding of backfill, spread and level ground
  • Secure shut down procedures and loading/unloading procedures
  • How to safely place materials into transporting vehicles and hoppers

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

This CPCS A23 Steered Skid Loader course is taught using a combination of practical tutorials and classroom discussion. Assessment is carried out using both theory and practical tests.

Who Should Take This Course?

Our skid steer loader course is suitable for those who have received no formal training on skid steer loader operation. It is also suitable for existing operators looking for a course to refresh your skills and knowledge.

What Qualifications Will I Receive?

Following successful completion of this course, trainees receive certification from the CITB National Construction College. The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is awarded once CPCS technical tests have been successfully completed.

Entry Requirements

If you would like to apply for this course you must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before your course date. You must also have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.
