What is the course?

The CPCS A58 Excavator 360 course provides attendees with basic training on how to operate and maintain this type of mini excavator (below 10 tonnes).

Course content

  • How to operate a mini excavator safely and correctly
  • Ancillary equipment and how to use it
  • Understanding how to make minor adjustments and carry out routine service operations
  • Awareness of the capacity, function and restrictions of the machine
  • Required safety procedures and safeguards
  • Safety standards and legal requirements
  • How to use laser equipment

How is the course taught and assessed?

This course is taught via a blend of classroom-based lessons and practical activities on-site. At the end of the course, you will be assessed in both areas via a practical exam as well as a theory test.

Who should take this course?

This is a beginners course suitable for anyone who will use a 360 excavator (under 10 tonnes) in the construction or industry or similar i.e. landscaping. It is also a superb refresher course for existing operators who purely wish to brush up on their skills.

You can choose from a range of qualifications related to each type of machinery:

  • A58A: Tracked
  • A58B: Wheeled
  • A58C: Lifting Operations

What qualifications will I receive?

Once you have successfully completed the whole course, you will be awarded the following:

  • CITB National Construction College certificate
  • CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (once you have fully completed the CPCS Technical Tests).

Entry requirements

In order to qualify for entry onto the course, you should have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) during the last 2 years. It is also essential to have a good command of written and spoken English.

What can I do next?

When you have fully completed the course, you can progress to studying towards your Competent Operator Card, the Excavator 360 Tracked (above 10 tonnes) course, Excavator 180 Wheeled course or the Combined Excavator 180 Wheeled and 360 Tracked course.
