IPAF Loading/Unloading (LOAD)

What is the course?

The IPAF Loading/Unloading (LOAD) course is designed for experienced professionals whose tasks involve the loading and unloading of MEWPs and mobile elevating platforms.

Through this course the interested operators will be trained to properly and safely undertake loading/unloading tasks with the corresponding machinery.

Course content

This course contains the following:

  • Raising awareness of the relevant and applicable health and safety legislation
  • Instruction on the different vehicle types
  • Raising awareness of accident prevention and control measures
  • How to carry out inspections and apply a risk assessment
  • Raising awareness of the necessary personnel protection equipment requirements
  • How to safely load, unload and secure mobile elevating platforms onto another vehicle

How is the course taught and assessed?

A highly trained IPAF instructor will guide you through the content of the IPAF Loading/Unloading (LOAD) course and teach you all the necessary details in order for you to complete the course in one day.

At the end of the course, the participants will have to undergo a multiple-choice theory test and a practical assessment to prove what they’ve learnt.

What qualification will I receive?

Upon successful completion of the course, the participating operators will be awarded with an IPAF certificate which is valid for 5 years.

Keep in mind that if you already hold a valid Powered Access Licence (PAL Card) for operating equipment, the Loading/Unloading (LOAD) category will be incorporated into your existing card(the expiry date will not change).

What can I do next?

Upon receiving the IPAF Loading/Unloading (LOAD) certificate, you may try to achieve certifications on other types of equipment. There is an extensive range of taught courses to choose from and get you certified on various other types of machinery.

Entry requirements

Since the loading and unloading of the equipment proves to be a physically demanding task, you are required to be in good health and physically fit, generally not have problems or issues with your eyesight, hearing, heart disease or blood pressure. Furthermore you should abstain from taking the course if you suffer from epilepsy, fear of heights/vertigo, balance difficulties, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug abuse and any psychiatric illness.

You are also required to to have completed a recognised operator’s course and hold a valid operator’s licence. Should you not meet these criteria, your employer can provide us with written evidence that you are competent of operating in a plant.

Additionally you are required to hold a valid driving licence for the corresponding vehicle to be loaded/unloaded. Should you not meet these criteria, your employer can provide us with written evidence that you are familiarized with driving the vehicle at hand.

Fluency in spoken and written English is necessary as well.
